This is the third time in four days that Her Royal Highness won't take a nap.
Crap crap crappity crap. I do NOT want her to give up her nap now, even if it means we can push bedtime an hour earlier. I need that sanity-saving toddler-free hour every afternoon. NEED. IT. BADLY.

almost as good as an actual naptime, is training the kidlet to have an equal "quiet time" period where she'd be in her room for the duration but not expected to sleep. as long as she'd stay there, quietly playing or reading, that ought to give you your break -- hope it works! with five of us, my mother needed her time badly, and the older kids had to have quiet time while the babes (and mum!) slept.... just keep putting her in her room at the usual time, and let her determine if she will sleep or play. good luck!
I'd second that anonymous comment.
My 5-year-old claims to be beyond naps. So, we tell her that she can quietly read on her bed. Odds are good that she'll be asleep in 15 minutes. It avoids a fight and quiet time is almost as good as a nap for child and for parents.

I'm all for quiet time, except that it seems to involve pulling every single freaking thing she can get her hands of off of shelves and onto the floor. It took me - no lie - half an hour to clean the piles of books and dressup clothes off the floor yesterday after two hours of "quiet time."
Well, okay, it was Jason who did most of the cleanup, but it still took half an hour.
I guess suggesting that "Liza helps cleanup" would not be a helpful suggestion?
My elder children (5&8) have gotten to the point where they can clean their own rooms and clean the playroom. I can just sit and eat bonbons.

(btw, what is a bonbon?)
